This is a transcription for band from the original 'Concerto on Themes from Donizetti's 'La Favorita' for oboe and orchestra. Pasculli was one of the most virtuosic oboists of the 19th century and, lacking enough flashy music, wrote many variations and fantasies on operas tunes of his time. This is the finale from one of the showiest of his works - although quite difficult, it lies well on the oboe and is much easier than it sounds since it was written by an oboist. The band transcription will hopefully allow oboists more impressive pieces to choose from when soloing with a band.
